Lead-up to the Queen's Tower plot. Ominous phone calls and concerning emails. The Glass Walker way.

From afar, Ishmael ring, ring.

Long distance to Ishmael: Mouse picks up after a few rings. "Hello?"

Ishmael pages: Hurriedly, "It's Ishmael. Is this line secure?"

You paged Ishmael with 'As secure as they get. What is it?"'.

Ishmael pages: The sounds of activity, much like a police bullpen can be heard in the background. "I'd catch up, but I don't have a lot of time. Have you been following the news?"

You paged Ishmael with 'Yes." There's a hint of tension in her voice. "Ishmael, /what is it/?"'.

Ishmael pages: There's a muffled sound, like a hand moving to cover the reciever. "It's bad, Mouse. We've almost lost New York. I don't mean the city. I mean /the entire state/. I'm in Manhattan now, and things are pretty grim. We're OK for the moment, but at the rate things are going, I can't make any promises."

You paged Ishmael with 'Jesus Christ. What the fuck is going on that's threatening the entire state?"'.

Ishmael pages: I wish I had time to go into all the details, but in short, it's a concerted attack. My Adren challenge has been to collect as much information as possible and it looks like they're establishing beachheads in all major sections of the country, starting with the coasts to flank the midlands. All of the Caerns in the state are contested right now, including this one. I think Birch Pool and Mountain's Mother have already fallen, but we can't verify. No one's answering their phones--even spirits are having a tough time getting through.

You paged Ishmael with 'There's a moment of nothing but breathing from the other end. "...Who is they? Dancers?"'.

Ishmael pages: The young man on the other end takes a breath. "Dancers, fomori, banes. At this point, we're pretty certain it's the Destroyer making an all-out push. That's the good news--the Devourer and the Defiler don't seem to as active. However, these riots are the perfect cover. Damage is being attributed to them or copycat protests. It's only a matter of time before you start seeing the same."

You paged Ishmael with 'Give me a timeframe for the Green. I know you've got estimates. How much time?"'.

Ishmael pages: There's a pause and some rustling of papers. Someone shouts something in the background. There's a short scuffle. "Another riot in Brooklyn," grunts Ishmael, with another shuffle of papers. "A week. Maybe two. Our saving grace is that they're being uncharacteristically careful, Mouse. They're really trying to deflect the severity of this so they can control the situation before the mundanes escalate it out of hand. But this was planned. Well." Another shuffling of papers. "I've got the forecasts here. Models predict the Dancers of Seattle will start spreading south and east as soon as the Dancers in the southwest have California covered."

You paged Ishmael with 'Another quiet breath. "I'm coming out there. I'll bring what I can, but we can't spare people from the Walk."'.

Ishmael pages: There's a sudden quiet, as if everything's slowing down. The young Walker's voice is eerily calm. "They have the airports, Mouse," he says.

You paged Ishmael with 'I wasn't planning on using a goddamned plane," is Mouse's comeback. "Listen to me. You tell the Green that I'm coming. I'll moonbridge in. Gaia willing, if we need to, I can moonbridge people out. I'm coming and I'm coming tonight."'.

Ishmael pages: I mean just now," he says, obviously standing and suddenly running somewhere. "They know we called for reinforcements, and they're trying to lock them out." The phone is muffled as he begins talking to someone. "I know it sounds very un-Garou, but they just gave an evacuation order to everyone nonessential," he says, breath short. "We can't just attack them in the streets so the Alpha has everyone fortifying what positions we have left, and is sending everyone else out to spread the news before we're completely cut off. Is St. Claire open?"

You paged Ishmael with 'Ishmael Paladin Chavez," Mouse says slowly. "I am coming to New York City, and I don't care what route I end up having to take. I don't care if it's just to help evacuate. I'm coming. You tell them that. I don't care if Mother Larissa herself tells me not to. I'm coming, and I will be there to help with whatever we end up doing. I'm not coming out there to die. St. Claire is open. Tell me what if anything else I need to tell people here, so I can get my stuff together."'.

Ishmael pages: Okay, right," says Ishmael, who seems to have found a quieter spot to sit and gather his thoughts for the moment. "Okay," he says again, shuffling through some papers, or a notebook. "We still have the Caern. They're gathering the rest of us there, including the people who need to leave. I think--" Suddenly, the sound of static, yelling, screaming, was that an explosion. But the line's still active. "--Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. That was a fucking bomb." Running. Lots of people running. The sound of blinds being opened. "Another riot down there. This is insane." Someone's barking orders in the background. "Mouse, they're saying this place isn't secure anymore. Head to the Caern. I'll tell them you're coming."

You paged Ishmael with 'I'll be there." Click.'.

Okay, let me sound pretentious for a moment. This may be the most important thing I ever write.

I've gone to the Green. I will be back as soon as I can, but we, the entire Sept and everyone nominally on our side in the St. Claire area, need to start preparing now. A major offensive is coming from Seattle, with likely reinforcements from Oregon if things go badly there. Pass this on to everyone, especially Steel Angel. The Wyrm is coming in force. The Theurges at the Green believe this is a full out offensive on the entire country by the Destroyer Wyrm and his followers, but the good news, if you can twist it that way, is that there aren't signs from the Devourer or the Defiler. They're starting with the eastern Coast, but they'll be in California soon, and in Oregon and Washington once they think California is somewhat secured. The plan seems to be establishing beachheads and then moving in to overwhelm the interior. They're using the riots, which are increasing in severity, as cover, but they seem to be concerned about making sure humans don't realize what's happening beneath the riots.

Ishmael believes Birch Pool and Mountain's Mother may have fallen, but no one can get through to confirm it, even using spirits. Every Caern in the state is under continuous attack. The Sept leaders have ordered an evacuation of kin and cubs, and they may very well head our way for shelter. Do what you can.

I've included the address of the new safehouse below. Contact Edward Maxwell, Salem, I've asked him to have the keycard and codes waiting for you guys. It's not finished, but it'll do if you need somewhere to coordinate that's not the Tenement. You already know the information for the Walker fund and our resources should something happen. See Rhys for my tentative plan to possibly trigger the riots early, before the Wyrm's forces are ready for it to happen; they're worried about it getting out of their control, I think our best bet is to ensure they don't have control in the first place here. Warn everyone. And get everyone ready, because we're about to be hit hard.

Nick gets in touch with Mouse to let her know that, if possible, she needs to tell Rhys to sit on the whole 'start a riot beforehand' tactic because Nick might be able to predict when and where the initial riot will happen in Saint Claire. Give him a couple days to work on it and he'll get back with her.

OOCly, and I'm not sure if this goes to Sheo or someone else, but Nick can use Corr 2, Time 2, Entropy 1 via an extended ritual to scry into the city's future looking for large pockets of entropy are building in anticipation of an upcoming riot. (Would make for helping to establish ICly an upcoming ONS.) That might allow the garou to decide that they want to let it happen but work to counteract certain things or if they want to start a riot before the actual riot, to see if that works to their advantage somehow.

From afar, Nicodemus | Text: Hey. Alicia talked to me. Wanted to see if I could take more control over Terminus and use the company to hurt DNA from a business standpoint. Not sure I want to risk Terminus that way, so your call there. Long-term, I do not want to be a Corporate Wolf (even if people keep thinking I'd be good at it). I don't have time for the 8-5 mundane grind. I'll do it temporarily, though. Must be able to telecommute. Definitely need one hell of a pay raise/bonus. I will probably retire after this.

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | Text: Can't make that call. Not in charge. If u do, be very careful, please.

From afar, Nicodemus | Text: I really don't want to do it. Who would I talk to? Think it might be better if I just flooded their facility, started a fire, or something along those lines? Could blow their computers in the process. Set them back quite a bit on their timetable and their finances without all this Corporate Wolf charades.

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | Big heads Fang + Walker backers. Don't do it then. Temporary delay might be best option. Big trouble coming = want everyone we can get + healthy.

From afar, Nicodemus | Text: Sounds good. Might be able to use a 'need to evacuate building now' scenario to get them to take the three subjects to vans for relocation. That'd be a good time to hit them. Note that the two dogs are not glowy. The crazy guy I mentioned is like you, but full of worms. Lots and lots of worms. No one else in the facility was glowy-special. Just loaded for bear. Or bigger things. FYI. Something to coordinate after this city chaos scying thing I want to put together. (See e-mail.)

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse instead of a return text, the phone rings with Mouse's number.

From afar, Nicodemus | Phone: The phone picks up on the second ring. "'Zup?" Nick says across the line, all casual-like.

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | Sirens can be heard in the background. They're not close, but they're not distant either. There's also a significant amount of background chatter, all urgent. "Got tired of typing," Mouse says. She sounds stressed, to put it mildly. "Listen, as far as I know, we're not missing anyone, and we're the only group of our kind in the entire state. They might have snagged this guy from Canada. Or maybe he was lost and they found him first? I don't know. But if he's reeking like that, he could be from Seattle, and if that's the case..."

From afar, Nicodemus | "... Then you'd want him alive, I'd assume. Or. I'm going to assume you're not suggesting we let the Ugly Cousins know where one of theirs is being kept? We'd lose two dogs, but they'd do all the dirty work for us, but I doubt that they'd be very considerate to the workers there."

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | "Neither." Mouse sounds firm. "Besides, I suspect his cousins are busy getting ready to bloody our nose. All I'm saying is, if he's one of them, you, general you, need to be very careful. And...you, as in /you/...need to know it won't be a rescue for him so much as an execution." She sounds almost apologetic.

From afar, Nicodemus | "Will you at least see if he's salveagable before doing that?" A beat. "And if he's not, is Erebus out of the question?"

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | Mouse stresses, "/I/ would." There's a beat from her end as well. "But I...Nick, if he's Danced, there's no way we can undo that outside of Erebus. And as far as I know, I'm the only one who can send him there." A little bit of hesitation. "I don't know if I'll be back to be able to do so in time. If I am, and I can, you've got my word I will."

From afar, Nicodemus | "Well, it looks like the sept is stuck in neutral on this one until a kinfolk decides to move on it." There's a pause, then an apology. "Sorry. That was harsh. I don't know why, but I have been a cranky bitch recently. Must be manstrating or something. Look," Nick says, perhaps trying to change the topic. "Tell me you're okay. Any idea when you might be back?"

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | "I'm okay," Mouse says. "My grandparents are too, so far. The trouble is, they've locked down--" Static. "--sorry. Locked down most of the official routes out of the city. The airport's in their control, the bus station. They've been sneaky as shit about it too, as far as the cops are concerned, either it's just a bunch of ongoing riots that are escalating, or they're plants. We're trying to get who we can out without tripping their suspicions. I don't..." Pause. "I don't know when. ASAP. But it's really, really bad, here, Nick. I wanted to hope Ishmael was exaggerating, but we might actually lose the Green. Hell, we might lose everything in the state."

From afar, Nicodemus | "I'm glad you and your grandparents are okay. Just." There's a pregnant pause. "You're second in charge over here. Intel is good. Taking care of family is good. Just don't go down with the wrong ship, Mouse."

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | "If I have my way," Mouse says slowly, "No one's going down with any ships. I'll do what I can." A beat. "I grew up here. You know? This place, these people, as much as I may have resented some of them, they were home before St. Claire. Some of them saved me from...saved my life. I'll do what I can. And then I'll come back."

From afar, Nicodemus | "If you die, I am going to look for someone to pull your fuzzy ass back from the dead," Nick threatens, though it's mostly good-naturedly. Mostly. "So you're saying I shouldn't stall on the DNA operation. Provided I learn that the riots aren't going to be happening around the same time."

You paged Nicodemus with 'We need a timetable," Mouse says. "If they're a month or so off, then we can afford casualties as long as we don't actually lose anyone. Any closer and, as grim as it sounds, that place might have to wait. It's this bad over here and there's more than one of our holy places in New York. There's only the one still around in Washington. Everything they've got over there is going to be aimed squarely at St. Claire."'.

From afar, Nicodemus | "Okay. I'll see what I can do, find out, and get back with you to keep you in the loop." He then offers, "Keep your head down, Mouse. No heroics. Oh, hell. You'll do that anyway. No /unnecessary/ heroics."

Long distance to Nicodemus: Mouse | "Aye aye, Captain," Mouse replies, sounding fond and light (if forcibly so) rather than mocking. "That goes for you too."

From afar, Nicodemus | "G'night, you goober-head." Nick then hangs up.

Via WalkerNet, everyone recieves an email from Ishmael Chavez.

St Claire Walkers,

Mouse has arrived here safetly and is working with The Green elders. Things are not going well: The forces of the Wyrm have already infiltrated the airports and bus stations, and are now working on the radio and cell towers. It's very possible all communication with The Green will shortly be cut off. And by all I mean ALL: The Dancers have found some way to ward away Gaian spirits that we're still investigating, rendering supernatural communication extremely difficult.

Mouse has affirmed that refugees may come to St Claire, so don't be surprised if you see them. I have also been ordered to return to St Claire and continue my research, so I will be arriving within the week once I've dealt with my responsibilities here. The Terminus branch in New York has also sent supplies to the St Claire branch; I believe Donald Mellancamp is the current chair head. He is Glass Walker kinfolk and has already been checked out and apprised of the situation here. You can speak with him for more details.

Now for the bad news: We have confirmed that Birch Pool and Mountain's Mother have fallen. Silent Current remains silent, but we're fairly certain it has also been taken. Falcon's Eyrie and Gentle Mountains ceased reporting in yesterday; we haven't given up hope on them yet, though. Hand of Gaia, Sentinel, and White Water all appear to be beating back the Wyrm advance for now, but the front is radiating outward. Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont are about to be overrun. Further reports indicate that Toronto, Montreal, and other southern Canadian cities are not faring much better than us here in the US.

Before I leave, I will keep reporting so long as we have power and internet.

Fuck me for a forgetful old man. You told me about that dream you had, and I never told you what I worked out about it. Not that it's much -- mostly the phrases, which seem to be important in specific groups/sequences:

o "Shall I show you the way?" "They come here alone and they will go alone." "To come and go is delusion."

o "When the question is common, the answer is also common. When the question is sand in a bowl of boiled rice, the answer is a stick in the mud."

o "The world is vast and wide. Why do you turn at the sound of a bell?"

Please be as safe as is reasonable.

Text from Nick with all of you in the recipient list:

The future is always in motion, but the riots will be here in as soon as one more week (though not very likely that soon) and almost certainly no longer than three more weeks. I foresee great chaos coming near the City Courthouse and the northwestern side of the city--nearest to Seattle. Curiously, Harbor Park seems to be a sea of tranquility in the coming weeks, unaffected by the initial turmoil. The future of the tenement, however, is very precarious. It will either survive or be destroyed, and it seems to have a roughly 50/50 chance of either. Make sure the insurance is paid up.

Any kin or garou living or working in the northwestern part of town might want to relocate or consider taking some vacation time very soon. Anyone staying in the tenement ought to know that doing so is at a high risk to their life and limb in the upcoming weeks.

Evacuate the Tenement completely. Use the vans Nick provided for us if necessary, and if any mundanes ask, just explain that a family is moving out. Focus especially on removing the electronic hardware (computers, etc) that I haven't managed to yet, as well as any weapons, important documents, etc. I've already removed the fetishes, so there's no need to worry about those. Do this immediately. No visitors, everyone on duty should have a partner with them at all times.

Salem: Get with Kavi, and set up the big surprise option on both of your phones. If the Tenement gets invaded, blow it while they're inside. I trust your judgment. Any other Walkers that would like to set up booby traps, realm or umbral, do so within the next week and then get out. Remember what you left, obviously, in case the Tenement ends up getting through the riots intact. NO kinfolk should be staying in the Tenement, or even visiting after the end of the week. If people need temporary places to stay, speak with Salem. He can arrange something with Maxwell.

Speaking of Maxwell, that's where you need to bring any of the public hardware or furniture from the Tenement. Address included. Just mention you're with me to the security men in the parking garage, and leave it with them/where they tell you to put it. Warn the Gnawers, and the city Get. Pass along to Jacinta the following, and say it's from me: One to Three weeks.

Above all, be careful,

For the record, here's the address and phone number my grandparents will be at for the time being *somewhere in Colorado*. Further, attached is the record of our un-clued kin near Spokane. They want nothing to do with Garou, for as little as they know about us, and I doubt that will change. However, I've been keeping an eye on them, as you might expect, and I want to make sure that continues regardless. I've sent a warning to the Tenement spirits, and most of them should be drifting out within the next day or so. Kakkerlak is with me, so don't worry about her. Most of the Tenement spirits will be relocating to our new...command center, for lack of a better phrase. Some will probably go to Harbor Park. They've done us good, so whatever can be done to protect them in the coming days would be appreciated. Those lobotomized roaches have a spot in our new place.

I've also left a file on the servers. You can guess at what it is. Don't bother with it unless the worst happens, and frankly, it's mostly sentimental nonsense, I wouldn't necessarily bother with it even if it does. Just keep everyone as safe as you can and hold the line. If anyone needs it, that pillow fetish is in the new place, in a box in the bedroom closet.
